The article discusses how VoIP leader Skype has announced that it will be releasing free mobile clients for the iPhone and Blackberry that will allow mobile owners with these types of phones the ability to place free and/or cheap phone calls to other Skype users. Skype is hoping that mobile VoIP (Voice-Over Internet Protocol) using their client will gain more attention from mobile owners with its release. Also for those iPod Touch owners who have been waiting for a mobile VoIP client on their touch will be thrilled to know the mobile Skype client will be released on the iPod Touch as well although it will require headphone with a built in microphone. First generation iPod owners will not be able to use Skype with these headphones but may be able to enjoy the new application using a dock connector with a microphone built in. On the iPhone, Skype will be limited to checking online status or for text chat over a cellular data connection which means Voice calls can only be placed over WiFi connections. So for those people who think they will be saving a lot of money on their cell phone bills, think again. The new client will be released for the iPhone on Tuesday, March 31st and in May for Blackberry owners.
